Jim Robl received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in percussion performance from DePaul University in Chicago, studying with percussion legends Bobby Christian and Al Payson.
Jim has taught and adjudicated throughout the U.S. and Canada. He has been a clinician for the Wisconsin Chapter of Percussive Arts Society, a judge for Drum Corps International, and head of percussion faculty for the Saskatchewan School of the Arts.
Jim has played with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and was principal percussionist in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theater, Elgin Symphony and American Ballet Theater Chicago Tour. Jim is currently principal percussionist for the Fox Valley Symphony and principal in the Green Bay Symphony. He also spent seven years as house percussionist for the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Jim has played for numerous pop artists, including The Moody Blues, Aaron Nevill, Phillip Bailey (Earth, Wind & Fire), Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers), Sheena Easton, Anne Murray, Dionne Warwick, Dennis DeYoung (Styx), The Temptations, Peabo Bryson, Art Garfunkle and others.
