Policy

We are committed to offering staff professional development for enrichment, renewal, growth and continuous improvement in ways that fulfill the mission, vision and goals of the college as well as strategic priorities. Such opportunities include organized programs and activities as well as individualized services and independent learning. While employees’ departments are expected to fund professional development, there may be times when a department’s budget is insufficient to meet these needs. In such cases, staff may apply for professional development funding of up to $500 per fiscal year.Procedure
Funding Application
To secure professional development funding:
- Inform your supervisor you’d like to apply for professional development funds.
- Submit the in Workday.
Review and Notification Process
- Approvals are made on a first-come, first-served basis, and approved funding may be for less than the requested amount. No more than $500 may be awarded per staff member per fiscal year.
- Requests are evaluated on the degree to which the professional development opportunity will advance the college's mission and goals. Priority consideration will be given to professional development opportunities that are expected to benefit the greatest number of people, additional consideration will be given for mission and EDIB related programs.
- Once the request is submitted in Workday, it will be reviewed and approved by your manager and Human Resources. Reference the job aid for full process details.
- Funding will only be awarded to those who attend the opportunity and submit the reflection.
Reflection Requirement
In order to receive funding, you will be required to submit a brief reflection about your experience to Human Resources and your manager within 30 days after completing the professional development opportunity. The task to complete the reflection will route to you via Workday based on the end date of the opportunity that you indicate in the initial request. The reflection will then route to your manager and human resources via Workday, and should include:
- A description of what you learned.
- A description of how the professional development opportunity will help accomplish departmental, divisional or college goals.
No requests or reflections will be accepted outside of the Workday process.
