Policy
St. Norbert provides full-time employees with paid vacation time to support rest, rejuvenation and a healthy and productive work environment.
Vacation is a paid time off (PTO) benefit and must be earned before it can be used.
The amount of vacation time you earn is based upon your job classification (exempt or nonexempt) and your number of continuous years of full-time service, per the charts below.
Exempt (Salaried) Staff Vacation Accrual
Years of Service | Account Accrual |
---|---|
Less than 5 | 21 days (6.47 hours/pay period) |
At least 5, but less than 10 | 23 days (7.08 hours/pay period) |
10 or more | 25 days (7.70 hours/pay period) |
Nonexempt (Hourly) Staff Vacation Accrual
Years of Service | Account Accrual |
---|---|
Less than 5 | 15 days (4.62 hours/pay period) |
At least 5, but less than 11 | 18 days (5.54 hours/pay period) |
At least 11, but less than 15 | 21 days (6.47 hours/pay period) |
15 or more | 25 days (7.70 hours/pay period) |
A few points to note about vacation time:
- The college calculates accrued vacation based on both your regular hours worked and any vacation or PTO hours you used in each pay period.
- You may accrue up to 125 percent of your annual vacation allotment. Once you reach 125 percent, you stop accruing hours.
- If you are receiving long- or short-term disability payments, or are on an unpaid leave, you don’t accrue vacation time.
- If you miss work, the college, at its discretion, may assign that time as vacation time.
- All of your vacation time must be approved and scheduled in advance by your supervisor. Supervisors are expected to honor employee vacation requests to the degree it’s possible to do so while managing college operations.
- The college does not pay out any personal PTO balances. However, if you terminate your employment with the college, your final paycheck will include a lump-sum payment for any accrued and unused vacation, provided you give the college appropriate notice of your departure, return all college property and pay any amounts owed to the college. If the college discharges you for violating college policies, you will be ineligible for a vacation payout.
- If you have a break in service, you will need to restart your years of service for accrual. You do not get to count any previous years.
