Workplace Expectations: Workplace Violence

Policy

The college is committed to maintaining a safe work environment for its employees. All employees are required to be sensitive to situations that could result in workplace violence and to take all necessary steps to avoid, and refrain from, situations that could lead to workplace violence.
 
Inappropriate and unacceptable behaviors in the workplace include, but are not limited to:

  • Threats – directly or indirectly communicating to another using words, conduct, writing, or other actions with the intent to cause harm to that person’s health, safety, or property
  • Intimidation – threats, blackmail, or verbal abuse to manipulate
  • Physical attacks – physically attacking another with or without a weapon, whether or not the attack results in grave bodily injury, or
  • Other acts of violence.

Procedure

Any employee who has knowledge of a workplace violence incident, or any actions that they believe could lead to an episode of workplace violence should immediately report the situation to their supervisor, Campus Safety, or to the Human Resources Office.
 
In addition, any employee who has knowledge of any person, including non-employees, who threatens to commit violence on the college premises should notify their supervisor, Campus Safety, or the Human Resources Office.
