This course will examine what (if anything) distinguishes knowledge of the self from other kinds of knowledge. In so doing, we鈥檒l consider: (i) what is valuable about self-knowledge; (ii) what distinguishes self-knowledge from self-understanding; (iii) whether or not authenticity has distinctive epistemic or moral worth; and (iv) what conditions of both the human mind (e.g., our cognitive biases and heuristics) and our social circumstances may undermine our attempts to know ourselves. Spring semester, alternate years.
