Archmere Academy in Claymont, Del., is a coeducational college preparatory high school, founded by the Norbertines in 1932.

Camp Fosters Leadership in the Spirit of Norbert

Students from a kindred community on the east coast will arrive at St. Norbert for a first-time summer leadership camp this June.

St. Norbert Leadership Corps (SNLC) will draw 40 teenagers from Archmere Academy, the Norbertine preparatory high school in Claymont, Del. Leadership is no new idea to this particular institution – one academy alum and involved past parent is Vice President Joe Biden.

Under the guidance of Corday Goddard (Student Development) and Joe Tullbane (International Education), the cohort of 40 students will spend a week engaging in a program that introduces basic leadership theories and best practices while also providing knowledge of important social-change strategies.

The Archmere students will participate in team leadership projects as well as undertaking community service in the Green Bay area. A day on the college-owned ropes course is planned to help build confidence and trust. The visitors will also have the opportunity to tour Lambeau Field, visit Bay Beach amusement park and attend a Timber Rattlers game.

The program is centered on the values-based model of leadership development exemplified by St. Norbert. It utilizes a Catholic values-based, experiential curriculum focused on building individuals who are committed to serving the common good.

The goal of the camp is to nurture leadership skills in a fun and interactive environment, says Goddard. Leadership in the footsteps of St. Norbert relays an experience of communio that is radically different from that experienced in more secular environments, and the June 9-15 camp seeks to highlight this unique bond shared between Norbertine communities.
