Meet the Class of 2018
Our new first-years may be just beginning their college careers, but they have already shown us they are a bunch to be reckoned with.
Members of St. Norbert’s Class of 2018 enter college with rich experiences and many not-inconsiderable achievements to their collective name. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do next!
Our annual snapshot of our newest class reveals that:
They were born to make a difference
- 1 presented a bill for banning corporal punishment in public schools to the House of Representatives.
- 1 was nominated for the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Award of Excellence and served as a representative at the Medical Congress of Excellence.
- 1 writes his own computer programs, including one for his graphing calculator.
- 1 was contracted by NASA to participate in the Student Launch Initiative Program.
- 96 were elected to their high school student governments; 10 served as class president of their student government.
- 27 participated in either Badger Boys and Badger Girls State, Michigan Boys State or Minnesota Girls State.
They are movers and shakers, makers and creators
- 114 received high honors in high school.
- 1 earned a 36 on the reading portion of the ACT; English is his second language.
- 2 participated in Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music, traveling to London, Paris, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.
- 24 were members of the Foreign Language National Honor Society; 1 was president of the group.
- 1 traveled to Scotland to perform with her orchestra.
- 1 marched in the Rose Bowl Parade.
- 1 is a unicycle clown.
- 1 performed as an Irish dancer with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
- 2 have already started their own businesses.
- 338 took Advanced Placement (AP) courses; 1 was enrolled in 10 AP courses.
- 16 took International Baccalaureate (IB) courses; 1 was enrolled in 13 IB courses.
- 1 medaled at the Regional and State English Language Olympiad.
- 1 volunteered at an archeological site in Italy.
- 1 took part in a program to save sea turtles in Costa Rica.
- 58 participated in mission trips. They headed to Africa and Central America; to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti and Honduras; and, within the United States, to Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Orleans, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, St. Louis, St. Lucia, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
- Students in the Class of 2018 hail from Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Japan, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Oregon and Wisconsin.
- 4 have already studied abroad, in Germany, Finland and Costa Rica.
- 2 participated in People to People, traveling to Australia, England and France.
- 1 went on a month-long kayaking trip through Lake Superior.
- 1 traveled the world for 15 years.
They are ready to serve
- 282 volunteered in high school; 1 volunteered more than 4,000 hours.
- 1 was the first male high school student in Wisconsin’s Fox Valley to receive an Assistant Child Care Teacher Certification, receiving both the Infant & Toddler Child Care Teacher and Child Services certifications.
- 1 was chosen keynote speaker for a Make-A-Wish Foundation event.
- 7 earned the rank of Eagle Scout; 1 earned the rank of Life Scout.
- 1 received the Bronze Award in Girl Scouts; 3 received the Silver Award in Girl Scouts.
- 1 has two brothers who are already ordained as priests.
They are team players
- 184 were selected as captain of a varsity sport, with 9 serving as captain for three different sports.
- 48 were all-conference athletes, with 6 being all-conference in two different sports.
- 13 were state champions.
- 4 have black belts in Karate; 1 is a second-degree black belt; 1 is a fourth-degree black belt.
- 1 is a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
- 2 were chosen for an all-state football team.
- 1 was selected for the all New-England football team.
- 1 was a USA Girl’s Hockey national bronze medalist.
- 1 was a national placer in power lifting.
- 1 made it to a national championship hockey final.
- 1 was the conference player of the year in football.
- 1 won first place at a national lacrosse tournament.
- 1 played football in the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium.
- 1 made All-state Academic two years in a row.
They are becoming ours – and some of them always were ours
